I posted this in another tribe...but I thought maybe some pet owners could help....My 2 jack russells have been digging up my little garden...I have 5 potted flowers (in big whiskey barrells),...and the little bitches go out there every 2 or 3 days and dig up a couple of pots...ruining my flowers...I tried bitter apple and it doesn't work...any suggestions?!?! P.S. I can not partition off the area...

We put a little temporary fence made of chicken wire around the outside rim of our pots to keep our dogs out of them. Once the plants get big enough, they stop digging around, so the chicken wire can be removed.

I've also heard (but haven't tested on my own little digger) that if you give them a place to dig (like a sand box) where they frequently find something while digging (like buried treats), then they'll stop digging in other places (like flower gardens).

I agree with Sayra. Our dogs LOVE to dig up anything they can, even our lawn, so we built them a sandbox in a corner of the yard that we don't use. Since then we haven't had any digging problems in our garden. We have also built a little 30" fence around all or our planting beds to keep our main digger out (but it didn't keep him from digging in the lawn). For our "trampler/pooher" who can easily jump over any fence under 4' tall we installed a scarecrow, which is an impact sprinkler with a motion detector, which turns on for 3 seconds when it senses movement. It took her about 2 days to learn not to go in that part of the yard.
