Re: can someone please tell me the pet food recall of both wet and dry kibble food?
Wed, March 19, 2008 - 10:54 PMI've heard similar things that products from China may or may not be contaminated with chemical preservatives. I know a couple small pet stores have pulled everything off their shelves that's from China.

Re: can someone please tell me the pet food recall of both wet and dry kibble food?
Thu, March 20, 2008 - 7:20 AMOur local pet food store has pulled 50% of the products they used to carry off the shelves permanently since the recalls.
There are a couple of reasons why you should avoid things made or supplied from China.
1) They have NO quality control with hazardous materials. They used a toxic substance to make their food additives appear different than what they really were. All of the toys have have been recalled recently, all had very unsafe levels of lead in them. One child even died from lead poisoning when he swallowed a small toy part. Crazy huh?
2) They abuse and have zero respect for animals as a culture. I have a link if you want to see it, but you can't have a sensitive stomach.
3) They violate human rights on a constant basis. -

Re: can someone please tell me the pet food recall of both wet and dry kibble food?
Thu, March 20, 2008 - 1:26 PMIt's the abuse I can't stand. I can't really pass judgement on the eating of dogs and cats because to them, they are food source like cows are to us, which Indians, who worship cattle, would never ever consider eating. My point is that we must treat animals with respect in life and in death. -

Fri, March 21, 2008 - 8:54 PMwhat is sad is that the usa buy's cemical's from china and put's it in our dog food! so now we have to read everything and if it has stuff we can pronouse then we don't buy it if it has any cemical's that the chinese brought then we don't buy it! so please be very careful and read the ingreedince before buying any dog food cause even if it say's made in the usa it still could have cemical's that came from china so please read the ingreedince so you don't have a sick pet! -

Re: can someone please tell me the pet food recall of both wet and dry kibble food?
Sun, March 23, 2008 - 8:19 AMThis is mostly a concern with large pet food manufacturers such as Purina, Iams, Eukanuba, etc.
If you feed the "boutique" ultra premium foods you can usually ( I say "usually" because there are some brands that I would avoid because they are known for having poor quality control) rest assured because they use more nutritious foods so they don't need as many additives. These foods are harder to find, and are more expensive, but how much is your peace-of-mind worth? Also, it makes for healthier dogs, which equals fewer vet visits = less money in the long run.
FYI I'm a crazy lady about pet food. I lost two pets to illnesses that were related to food, so I've done tons of research on it. -

Re: can someone please tell me the pet food recall of both wet and dry kibble food?
Sun, March 23, 2008 - 5:54 PMI'm with ya Purity! I'm crazy about canine nutrition as well. I work at PetSmart and I feel it's part of my duty as a trainer there to help owners pick out the best foods for their dogs. Even at a huge corporation like PetSmart, we have a few good brands; Avoderm, Nature's Recipe, and Blue Buffalo. But I know of a ton of other great foods!
For me, it's worth the extra $20 or $30 (as compared to grocery store brands) to feed my dogs well. I want them around for as long as possible :)

Re: can someone please tell me the pet food recall of both wet and dry kibble food?
Mon, March 24, 2008 - 5:51 AMAnd there are so many more benefits other than just being more healthy in general. Our dogs don't smell like dogs, their breath does not smell at all, they have smaller poos, their teeth need less care, they shed less, their coats are soft and shiny, they pay better attention to training and they have more energy!

Re: can someone please tell me the pet food recall of both wet and dry kibble food?
Sun, March 23, 2008 - 12:22 PMsince you are in oakland, check out pet food express. They carry better quality foods and the staff appears to be knowledgable, at least to the one I go to (51st & broadway). They can help you get a better quality food and they have taken all food of the shelf that has been or could even potentially be on the recall list.
You will be paying more$$ for better quality food, so be prepared to shell out a bit more, but its worth it to feed your dogs better, healthier foods.
When I switched over to prairie brand it was a big change for my wallet, but I budget for it and my dogs have never been happier.

Re: can someone please tell me the pet food recall of both wet and dry kibble food?
Sun, March 23, 2008 - 5:36 PMWe were SOOOO excited when Pet Food Express opened up in my town. Before we had to drive 30 minutes to get there.
It's also important to note that with higher quality food you can feed much less.
